X-ICE is a free toolkit for converting Microsoft Word™ documents to XML.

It is released under the GNU General Public License so you may use it without charge for any purpose.

It requires that the following are installed:

• XMetaL from Justsystems. It will work with all versions from 1.0 to 4.6, and with the evaluation version.
• Microsoft Word 97 or later.
• Perl from ActiveState.

Launch the Windows Installer package to start the installation.

See the ReadMe for more information. A demonstration word document is provided which can be converted to XML to get you started.
